Northern Expo preview

The Northern Expo Dairy Show hopes to continue its reign as a national autumn show fixture and undoubtedly one of the best and most popular one day Holstein shows in the UK when it is scheduled to go ahead in its 29th year on the evening of Friday 21st October 2011 within Borderway Mart, Carlisle. The show is open to all female animals registered with Holstein UK and there are over twenty classes to suit all ages of cattle from baby calves to senior cows.

For those of you who are not familiar with the Northern Expo Dairy Show it’s beginnings came with the decision to hold a club show in 1982 by members of the North West Holstein Breeders Club, then a fledgling club.

The 1982 show immediately enjoyed popularity, attracting a creditable 74 head of cattle from 21 exhibitors that year.

Over the last decade and more the show has witnessed continued development, which always welcomes new faces to enter as exhibitors. The quality and professionalism of the event has rapidly developed under a forward thinking show committee, which is made up of seventeen members who dedicate their time to see a progression in the expo show.

Indeed the quality of cattle and popularity of the event have been such that World Wide Sires UK Ltd has this year become the main sponsor of the event.

This year we welcome Mr. Giuseppe Beltramino of Bel Holsteins in Reggio Emilia, Italy as our judge. Raised on a registered Holstein farm in North West Italy, Giuseppe is an export manager for Semenzoo Italy, promoting and managing sales of Italian genetics across Europe and further afield.

Prior to becoming export manager, he travelled and worked as a professional cattle fitter, working for top breeders throughout Europe. He’s still involved with the family’s Bel Holstein herd, together with his brothers he has enjoyed many successes in the main Italian & European shows with cattle they have bred. Most famously Bel Mtoto Diana EX92 which was Grand Champion, Italian National Holstein Show twice and Al-Pe Doriana the 3 times Italian National Holstein Show Champion.

Giuseppe has been an ANAFI (Italian Holstein Society) official judge for 7 years judging many Italian shows as well as those in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Argentina and Australia

The show is an evening event commencing at 6pm (with free entry to the show) in order to allow farmers and businesses to finish chores before attending. Refreshments will be available.
